Douglas N. Smith

Founding Principal

Douglas is the founding principal and brings more than 25 years of financial services experience to his role overseeing the firm's strategic direction and overall management.

Prior to founding Caledonia Group, he was Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary to the Board of Directors for a private mortgage banking firm, where he oversaw and directed all legal and compliance functions, including the maintenance of new investor relationships and negotiating the agreements for the sale of individual and loan pools.

His diverse financial services background also includes serving as Counsel at the Massachusetts Division of Insurance and as a Special Agent for Prudential Preferred Financial Advisors. He also worked at two management consulting firms.

Douglas graduated with a Juris Doctor from New England Law Boston and a Bachelor of Science in Speech from Emerson College.

He has also been President of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Foundation and on the Massachusetts Mortgage Banking Association Board of Directors.

He also serves on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Boston. He has spoken on various industry panels and served on a Massachusetts Banking Council task force.
